Some of you may know i've been on a quest for a cucumber pickle recipe. I'm by no means a pickle specialist, the only thing i know is that: I enjoy fast food style pickles (since they're the only i ever had anyways, and i like them very much XD)
Info: this is not a recipe post, this is just me yapping about pickling failures LOL
I found a store bought jar of pickles that i really enjoyed but they're too expensive. If i learned how to make them at home i could have way more pickles for a fraction of the price. #stonks!
But i've been having a hard time with those. Youtube videos that claim to teach the "Mc donalds pickles" have been pretty disappointing. Tried multiple recipes that were edible but not IT... As somebody mentioned already, pickling is an art (and seems like i was too bad at that). Until i watched a video. It was my last resort as it's called The ONLY pickle video you need to watch. how would i not trust it?
I really doubt the ones i like were made with the lactofermentation method so i went with the first one, the garlic dill pickles. Their review said it's 10/10, easy and tastes like burger king pickles, so i thought that could be the one.
Hardest step: finding the dill. It's really uncommon in Brazil and i couldn't find the whole uh, plant. In my local market i found just the dried dill seeds so that had to do it.
Did everything as the guy taught in the video, just added a bay leaf and some mustard seeds to the jar because, why not. I also boiled the dill seeds along with the brine just to make sure the taste would really come out. Next up: please don't arrest me for i dont know if i committed any crimes to the pickling culture
First day in the fridge: I'm too anxious so i had to give it a taste, and it was SO GARLICKY, did i put too many? Oh hell naur i love garlic but that made me feel like i was Wario. I removed all the garlic, some of the onion and a bit of the brine, replacing it with a bit more water and vinegar.
Back to the fridge it went. Today it feels milder and less garlicky. But it was already possible to notice that the dill seeds did it for me. Was it the secret all along? It wasn't even in the ingredient list of the Hemmer pickles i bought at the store! But i think it gave it the WHAAM. the pickle BOOM i was looking for.
Imma leave it in the fridge for a few more days and see how it goes. Next time i'm already sure i won't be adding any garlic, but i think I'm really close to THE pickle recipe i've been looking for
Should i update this with my next observations? I think i might xD

Re: Kuroi's Pickle Quest
I'm curious as to how this turns out. Send pics! I've never seen anyone do pickling before.

Re: Kuroi's Pickle Quest
I must know how they turned out! Also you can grow dill indoors pretty easily with a small pot, some loose potting soil, and a grow light. Join us in the "lets talk about plants" thread

Re: Kuroi's Pickle Quest
I second this, if Kuroi has a windowsill some Dill would probably grow on it.
Re: Kuroi's Pickle Quest
It would be so cool to plant them! I will try to find the seeds for planting sometime, tho idk what else they can be used in, i accept suggestions
As for the pickles, i really think the garlic killed the recipe for me xD it's edible but kinda meh, the garlic is just not it
I may come back here later when i finish eating those so i can try again with just vinegar, water, salt, sugar and the dill seeds
The pickle quest continuer. Pray for me plis xD
