Homepages as homes on the web

Post by Onio »

I saw someone write that they wanted to make their homepage their "primary spot" on the web, and I thought that was a really neat idea. I think I've been slowly working on doing this for myself without noticing it, with my bookmarks and search space and the little notebook on the front page. When I think of my homepage, I don't necessarily think of it as my 'home' on the web or the place from which I start all my endeavors, but now I'm wondering, what would a conscious effort to build my website out to be a central hub for myself to utilize look like? It makes me think about the directories and features and local storage tools I would like to add, just for myself, since I keep returning to it so often, and how to make it most accessible and usable to myself first and foremost.

Do you see your homepage as your home on the web? What would you do to make it your primary starting point for interacting with web content?

This is pretty interesting

Mine is primarily my content spot so to say. Ditching social media, i've been wanting to mostly collect my thoughts, art and other creations in a single place, while still being able to showcase all of that to everyone

Would be interesting to make it actually useful for me (and maybe others) and not just a "content hub"!

I've been wanting to reorganize my neighborhood page, i feel its too messy and cluttered, i would like to have the websites i actually interact in a more accessible and organized way

That makes so much sense, I think there are so many creators out there who have already expanded into personal websites, many I'm sure who have left social media behind, and others who are likely thinking about creating a website of their own, having a website as a sort of portfolio and platform for what you produce is such a great reason to create one.

I'm not even sure what I consider mine, I think mine was built mostly for entertainment of others and to use as a social connection point. In the beginning I had an about me and sections for photography and all that jazz, but I eventually shed all of that when I began favoring creating a place for others, with the specific goal of connecting with others. The games are a creative outlet for sure, but I don't see my site as a portfolio, the projects aren't serious xD it's all just for fun.

There really are so many reasons why people would build a website - portfolio, social connections, archiving information, self-representation, and so on. I get overwhelmed when I think about trying to combine it all into one space, which is likely why Onio.Club is fairly small and simple. I really would like to create a dedicated space where I can share more biographical information and more serious gallery pages for projects I've created, but even that I might not consider as building out a home on the web! So many personal websites are primarily made to be seen by others eyes, and now I wonder what would I create if the primarily client was myself, to use it every day? :P

Edit: bruh I gotta replace the smilies XD

Honestly that sounds really cool, but idk I would love to use my site as a hub for everything but i'm not sure as to how feasible that would be for me especially with my lack of knowledge in coding and overall lack in patience 😭
