The Value of Nature Journaling

Post by birdtree »

Even though I'm already known to have a pretty profound interest in nature, I just thought I'd share that anybody can take up nature journaling as a way to deepen thoughts on other forms of life, while practicing artistic skill. It's a good alternative to traditional journaling if you want to geek out a little without a screen.

Through the craft, which consists of putting words, pictures and numbers in a blank book or just on a drawing pad, I have trained my watercolor skill from zero to a point I am pretty happy with. I'm still a beginner, but I am much better than I was.

And from the perpective of being out in nature (watch out for ticks when sitting in the woods if your region has them, I use a dollar store 3-legged chair :) ), since starting nature journaling, my interest for inquiry has deepened even more, and it magnifies even more my interest in nature every time I go out.

Find resources on the web by just googling "'nature journaling" or following this link https://johnmuirlaws.com/nature-journal ... g-growing/

Happy exploring!

I am replying because since doing this post I have added a page on nature journaling, linked as "create outside" on my web home!

I love this! I just bought a brand new blank journal that I may use for these nature journaling efforts... I appreciate your linked resources, especially your own website link! I must admit, it is rather inspiring, and seeing as I'm outside a lot of the time on walks and such, taking a few minutes each time to just exist and note down a few nature related things sounds like bliss to me...!

My efforts to touch more grass have been strengthened... I may purchase a cheap little carry-able watercolor set to quickly sketch down some sights. Write about some sounds and smells, how I feel in the moment. Might even grab a leaf or two to tape down in the journal! Flower pressing! Mud staining! Texture rubbing! Thank you for sharing this and inspiring me!
